From Screamo to Sludge: NYC's Week of Blackened Metal, Mathcore, and Doom
The five boroughs are bracing for a massive wave of sonic extremity this week, starting with a devastating mid-week double-header of abrasive noise rock and blackened screamo. On Tuesday, Texas outfit Portrayal of Guilt brings their dark, shape-shifting screamo and black metal fusion to (Le) Poisson Rouge, touring on the heels of their relentless pursuit of cinematic bleakness. They are flanked by the unmatched, sample-heavy industrial noise rock of Street Sects, ensuring a night of high-tension, confrontational live performance. The darkness deepens on Wednesday at Bowery Ballroom, where Norway's Witch Club Satan brings their ritualistic, feminist black and death metal theater to the stage, offset by the haunting, experimental ambient drapery of Penelope Trappes.
